gamblinglouisiana officials cracking down on poker

There have been several busts and lawsuits in Louisiana lately, mostly focusing on for-money games in bars which have been taking off there.

Texas Hold 'Em tournaments have become popular at many bars in and around Lafayette in recent months, but Alcohol and Tobacco Control Commissioner Murphy Painter is planning to send out cease and desist orders to bar owners about the games soon, according to the Associated Press. Painter said he plans to start "seriously investigating" poker tournaments this week.

gamblingquoted

I was quoted in an article that hit the Dallas Morning News today. Even better, they mentioned this site!

"You have to know yourself and set limits in advance. I caution people that if they're not able to break even or make money, they should be training more," says veteran Jeremy Kraybill, an Austin software engineer who runs a poker blog, LoveandCasinoWar.com.

diversionsvoting... what a gas

Fairly funny article over at Slate about the math of voting.

If Kerry (or Bush) has just a slight edge, so that each of your fellow voters has a 51 percent likelihood of voting for him, then your chance of casting the tiebreaker is about one in 10 to the 1,046th power-- approximately the same chance you have of winning the Powerball jackpot 128 times in a row.

Just a brief reminder of how democracy works: everything in that article holds true, as long as nobody believes it.
